film underground?

I don't understand why you would use the word underground in the title of your site. A film festival section devoted to Sundance is hardly underground at all. It's Indie Hollywood. Underground is more along the lines of the NY Underground Film Fest as well as the one in Chicago and various other venues which offer screening opportunitites for marginalized, non-commercial, uncategorizable movies. Sundance is just huge. After all, they have their own cable channel and are spearheaded by Robert Redford. How non-conformist is that?

Thanks for the email. The reason that we use "film underground" as our title is because the name "independent film" has been misappropriated in recent years to describe multi-million dollar films with major studio backing and internationally known stars. Our site is dedicated to low budget film makers, usually first timers or unknowns. Our site is not intended to promote and discuss odd or unusual film but to provide a resource for film makers who operate outside of the mainstream.

The answer to your question "How nonconformist is that?" would be "Not very." We do address the question "Is Sundance independent?" in our Sundance Report. I don't know whether you have had a chance to read it but I am attaching the file as a Word 6.0 document.
